BE YOUR OWN BEST DEFENDER ONLINE If you have been reading those news stories about the recent credit card security breach you are probably wondering how to best protect yourself and your finances from threat. The best things you can do start with YOU. NEVER provide personal information to anyone who requests it in an e-mail, phone call or text message. ALWAYS check to be sure you know who you are talking to. One good strategy is to only verify information, never provide it yourself. If the caller says they are from your credit card provider, hang up and call the number on the back of your credit card. That way you know you are speaking to the right people. Be especially wary of unsolicited calls offering to save you money on card or loan services. These callers will often ask you for your credit card or personal information - don't fall into their trap. Remember to keep your passwords secure, too. Try adding a symbol to your password to make it even safer whenever possible. Avoid using common passwords like "Password" or "123ABC". Remember that information that is easy to find on your FaceBook page or online is also not a good choice for a password. Avoid using your children's names or your pets names, or common dates, like birthdays as passwords. Finally, change your passwords regularly and especially if you have reason to think any of your information may have been compromised. |

Countywide Federal Credit Union was founded in 1962 as the Beavercreek School Employees Federal Credit Union.
